A photocast of my practice run with the lance at the 2007 International Tent Pegging Championships, the world equestrian skill-at-arms games. My horse, Shomool, is galloping through the course at a greater speed than I had ever experienced on horseback. I am holding the lance at a rather desperate distance from our bodies to stave off the obvious calamity, and I have lost the nearside stirrup.
